In this project, I redesigned the poster for one of my favorite monster movies, Cloverfield. I admire Cloverfield a lot due to it's creative marketing, engaging movie, and interesting ARG. Along with a poster, I created two billboard designs.

Challenge: Recreate an existing movie poster

As usual, I started by getting inspiration from past posters, screenshots of the movie itself, and camera overlays. Together I put together a mood board.
I had two ideas: The first being the head of the Statue of Liberty, an iconic symbol of the movie, with a camera overlay to represent the found footage feeling of the movie. The other idea was to have the silhouette of the monster over the destruction of the city.
I decided to move forward with the idea behind the statue head. from Unsplashed, I took a picture of the Statue, editing the head off and adding damage to it through photoshop. Then I added effects to the head so that it will blend in with the retro aesthetic of the poster.
I found these two pictures to be additional overlays on top of the poster to put together the found footage feeling.
After searching for Video camera fonts, I found "VCR OSD MONO" which had the right characteristics for replicating a camera overlay.
I put together a rough draft with a few of my elements, and after receiving feedback, I started to work on my final draft.
I wanted this poster to feel as though the viewer is looking through the lens of a broken camera, I wanted to create intrigue, and not give away too much about the movie. I then started to work on different billboard designs, changing small elements between them.
